How to do a stocktake on Shopify without Stocky

Conducting a physical inventory count—commonly called a stocktake—is essential for keeping your books accurate, catching shrinkage, and preventing stockouts. Historically, Shopify POS Pro merchants relied on the Stocky app to manage this workflow.

Step 1: Prep your warehouse and inventory

A successful stocktake starts before you count a single item. To ensure accuracy:

• Organize your shelves: Group identical items together. Make sure hidden stock in backrooms is visible.
• Halt operations: Stop receiving new supplier deliveries and pause fulfillment of outbound orders during the count.
• Ensure all items have barcodes: Check that SKUs and barcodes are printed and readable.

Step 2: Decide on your counting method

Without Stocky, you have two primary options to record quantities:

1. Manual CSV Sheets: Export your product list from Shopify to a CSV spreadsheet, print it out, count manually with a pen, type the final counts back into the CSV, and import it back into Shopify.
